Rheumatoid arthritis demands intensive interdisciplinary cooperation between the orthopaedic surgeon and internist, and this monograph provides all the information necessary for the specialist dealing with inflammatory changes of the hip joint in rheumatoid arthritis. The course of the disease is outlined, so that varying treatment approaches can be understood. The book describes the medical and the physical treatment of the hip joint, including discussion of the mechanisms of action and side effects that may occur. The options for conservative orthopedic treatment and for operative intervention are carefully considered. The broad spectrum of treatment principles, courses of action and results that are discussed will aid every physician interested in the rheumatoid hip.
