Rare Reed Massengill collectible item. A pristine original photographic print, titled, numbered, and signed by Reed Massengill. It shows the All-American model, in a full-frontal yet elegant nude portrait. Another Hujar-inspired portrait of Jon Herweg remains Massengill's single most famous nude and appeared as his Contribution to "Male Nude Now: New Visions For The 21st Century". Print size is 11 X 14 inches. The photograph is very beautifully printed in the United States under Reed Massengill's direct supervision to absolutely the highest standards. Eminently suitable for framing. Encased in his studio's protective plastic sheet. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in a Limited Edition print, Reed Massengill's "Jon In Lon's Chair". The photographer, who is also a brilliant writer/historian on photography, has received well-deserved accolades for his male nudes: "Sensational imagery, depicting every essence of male-ness. His extroverted models present themselves cheeky and playful, teasing us pleasurably with their beauty" (Lon Hanagan). That comment perfectly captures this casually yet stunningly beautiful photograph. A "must-have" original, not just memorabilia, item for Reed Massengill and male erotic art photography collectors. This 11 X 14 inch Limited Edition photographic print is very prominently and beautifully titled, numbered, and signed in pencil on verso by the photographer: "Jon In Lon's Chair 1/15 Reed Massengill". It is encased in his studio's protective plastic sheet and is eminently suitable for framing. This print is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the print available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: For a print this size, Massengill prints command hundreds of dollars from his New York gallery. A rare signed print thus. 1 original 11 X 14 inch photographic print. Retrospective collection of male nudes. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as a softcover original only that sold out upon publication. There is no ISBN. The Special Portfolio Issue is now rare. Presents Playgirl Magazine's "Christopher Atkins: The Best of Playgirl" Special Portfolio Issue. One of the best portfolios ever published by Playgirl in its history. The models, who all appeared in the original issues of Playgirl Magazine during its first decade, represent, individually and collectively, some of the handsomest and sexiest men Playgirl Magazine ever discovered and photographed. It is a well-established fact that a significant number, if not a majority, of Playgirl's readers and collectors are men, gay as well as, by open admission, straight, who were looking to compare and size themselves up versus the models, and in the hope of landing on PG's coveted Centerfold, too. While the "physique" magazines of yore scored their fair share of good-looking and well-endowed models, they remained esoteric and could not attract many of the otherwise willing specimens of American male beauty because the latter feared being branded as gay. That fear was effectively extinguished for good by Playgirl Magazine with its "For Women Only" branding - while being fully aware that men constitute a large, unacknowledged audience. Whatever one's feelings about this strategy, it worked brilliantly, and hastened the acceptance of the male nude as no "physique" magazine - before AND after PG - ever could. An absolute "must-have" title for Christopher Atkins, Greg Gorman, and Playgirl Magazine collectors. This copy comes with an 8 X 10 inch Uncensored Digital Color Print of Christopher Atkins, full-frontal, as originally photographed by Greg Gorman. This title is an erotic photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only set of the Special Portfolio Issue and Digital Color Print available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare set thus. Lavishly illustrated with color plates, 1 digital color print. A fine collectible set. One of the most beautiful books on the photographic art and achievement of Bruce of Los Angeles. Limited Slipcased Edition of 2500 copies. The first and only edition. An elegant and sumptuous production by Samuel Nicholas: Oversize-volume format. Tan hard boards with photographic reproduction on the cover and titles on the spine, as issued. Photographs by Bruce of Los Angeles. Essay by Vince Aletti, the eminent photography critic of the New Yorker Magazine. DVD Collection of 12 digitally restored films by Bruce attached on the Inside Back Cover. Matching tan slipcase with black titles printed on both sides. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper by Graphicom in Vicenza, Italy to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is outstanding in every respect. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, n a handsome collectible format, "Bruce of Los Angeles: Inside/Outside". Some of the legendary photographer's legendary male nudes. The images are reproduced in all their neon-light, bright colors on the right-hand side, in two parts: "Inside" (Bruce's LA studio) and "Outside" (Nature settings) . The running motif is Bruce's fascination and obsession with the eroticism of the American "Cowboys And Indians" frontier-myth. Except for what appears to be exactly the same red string bikini, the models are nude, bedecked in hats, Indian feathers, bows, arrows, guns, knives, and other costumes and props identified with the American West. Bruce was careful, however, to make sure that they did not get in the way of the full-frontal nudity. His models' poses consciously evoke the Classical past, and in this sense, he reminds one of von Gloeden, whose pastiche art was once described by Roland Barthes as a "carnival of contradictions", just as Bruce's surely was, too. Bruce had The Eye: He discovered Joe Dallesandro, his single most famous model and Andy Warhol's superstar/muse, among so many others. His residual influence is unmistakable to this day: The All-American boy/man good looks have attained universal status as the symbol of masculine beauty and desirability, belying the "diversity" people celebrate when they talk of the 21st century. Even a radical voice such as Dennis Cooper grudgingly acknowledges this fact: "Bruce's influence on everyone from Robert Mapplethorpe, Herb Ritts, and Bruce Weber to Cindy Sherman and Laurie Simmons reveals the artist's manipulations in order to circumvent the suspicious and censorious of his time" (Dennis Cooper) . An absolute "must-have" title for Bruce of LA collectors. This copy is one of the Limited Slipcased Edition of 2500 copies, indicated as such on the Copyright Page. This title is a great erotic art photography book. This is one of few copies of the Limited Edition still available online and despite its imperfection (a bump on the slipcase, NOT affecting the book itself, but it's there) is still in fine condition overall: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have very serious flaws. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. 100 color plates. One of the mos brilliant photographers of the male nude of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER BRUCE OF LOS ANGELES AND JOE DALLESANDRO TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). Los Angeles, CA: Playgirl Magazine, 2010. Softcover. Fine/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 96 pages. Rare Ronnie Kroell and Playgirl Magazine collectible item. A fine copy of the Playgirl Magazine Summer 2010 Issue. Features the Reality TV contestant and supermodel Ronnie Kroell on the cover and full-frontal nude photographs in the inside pages. The Single Issue sold out shortly after publication and became a huge bestseller, one of Playgirl Magazine's most successful Issues since its inception. It is now rare. Presents "Playgirl Magazine: Make Me A Supermodel's Ronnie Kroell". Unbelievably sexy full-frontal nudes of the winsome (and otherwise All-American, Midwest-wholesome) supermodel. Playgirl Magazine ceased publication and became an online magazine only in late-2008. The Levi Johnston Winter 2010 Issue marked its very first "single issue" publication since it stopped printing its Monthly as well as Special Issues. It was followed, sensationally, by this Summer Issue (there was no Spring Issue), indicating, as did happen, that the magazine would only be published on a sporadic, "opportunistic" basis. As such, it consists entirely of full-frontal nude photographs from cover to cover, with minimal accompanying editorial content. Ronnie Kroell shows it all, for the first and only time, in a brilliant career that began auspiciously, as evidenced by his Cover Model appearance in Instinct Magazine's September 2008 Issue, which comes with this PG classic. An absolute "must-have" collectible title for Ronnie Kroell and Playgirl Magazine collectors. This copy of the Playgirl Magazine Summer 2010 Issue is very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on the Front Cover by the model: "Thank you for your support. XOXO Ronnie". It is signed and inscribed directly on the cover itself, not on a tipped-in page. The recipient, who is named, obtained the signature during a rare public appearance of Ronnie Kroell in his native Chicago. It comes with pristine copies of Ronnie Kroell's Souvenir Card, which he handed out during the event, and the landmark "Ronnie Kroell" Instinct Magazine September 2008 Issue. This title is a contemporary erotic photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed and inscribed copy (with Souvenir Card and Magazine supplements) available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. There is NO other set as collectible as this that we are aware of. Ronnie Kroell is, quite simply, one of the absolute top models - and one of the nicest - ever to grace the Cover and Inside Pages of Playgirl Magazine in its history. Please note: Ronnie Kroell did NOT sign most copies of the magazine. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with color plates. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO CHRISTOPHER ATKINS, PHIL VARONE, LEVI JOHNSTON, AND NICK HAWK PLAYGIRL MAGAZINE TITLES IN OUR CATALOG)., Playgirl Magazine, 2010, 5, Los Angeles, CA: Kurt Deitrick Studios, 1980. First Edition. First Printing.. Softcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Los Angeles, CA: Kurt Deitrick Studios, 1980. Softcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 1 pages. Rare David Ashfield and Kurt Deitrick collectible item. An original vintage color photographic print of David Ashfield, photographed by Kurt Deitrick. David Ashfield was one of Kurt Deitrick's most celebrated models, one of the most popular male-nude models of the 1980's, and one of the sexiest ever. The print is considerably larger, at 5 X 7 inches, and is encased in an oversize protective plastic sheet. It shows the boyishly handsome, lean, muscular, and well-endowed David Ashfield at the peak of his beauty in one of his most beautiful poses, a full-frontal, fully erect shot. Why beautiful? According to Peter Hujar, the (still controversial) erection is the human male body in its most beautiful state. It is the "middle" state between normal/"soft" and orgasmic/"explosive", when the human male, not just the body, becomes "state-less", however fleetingly. This is not a digital print or a later, contemporary print but was printed directly from the original negatives in the 1980's, at the time of first publication. Beautifully developed, with great clarity and warm tones, on Kodak Photographic Paper. This is the genuine article, an absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item for David Ashfield, Kurt Deitrick, and erotic art photography collectors. This original vintage color photographic print is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the print available online, is eminently suitable for framing, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare print thus. One of the iconic American male-nude models of the 20th century. A fine collectible print. (SEE ALSO OTHER KURT DEITRICK TITLES IN OUR CATALOG)., Kurt Deitrick Studios, 1980, 5, New York City, NY: Champion Studio, 1988. First Edition. First Printing.. Softcover. Fine/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. New York City, NY: Champion Studio, 1988. Softcover. Fine/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 1 pages. Rare Jim Stryker and Walter Kundzicz/Champion Studios collectible item. A contemporary (1988) color photographic print of Jim Stryker, perhaps the single most good-looking male-nude model ever, in his only full "butt-rear" nude portrait, signed by Walter Kundzicz. The print measures 3.5 X 5 inches and is presented "bleed". Champion Studio's vintage prints were "pocket size" and had white borders, the vintage-indicative practice of the 1960's. It is encased in a protective plastic sheet. The photograph shows Jim Stryker in a Classical pose, Perfection Incarnate, in the manner of a Greek god. He is photographed in a natural setting, has close-cropped hair (Stryker grew his hair out for his later sessions with Kundzicz), and shows his bikini line. This print was one of the few surviving photographs of Jim's "Early Period" in Walter Kundzicz's personal collection. Furthermore, Stryker did not pose completely nude again, full-frontal or butt-rear, in any of his later iconic portraits although he still revealed a lot in those tight pouches and bikinis. Jim Stryker is the prototypical All-American male beauty. He anticipated by more than two decades the model/stars of the reigning American photographer of the male nude, Bruce Weber. In this truly sexy photograph, Jim's physique is fully developed and perfect. He was a lot slimmer - and also self-consciously shy - in his earliest photographs, which make them more, not less, appealing as such because they visually show us his physical and psychological transformation from "boy-next-door" to confident, full-fledged star. This photograph does NOT appear in Walter Kundzicz's "Champion" book. This is the genuine article, an absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item for Jim Stryker, Walter Kundzicz/Champion, and male erotic art photography collectors. This is an original color photographic print. It is very boldly and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on verso by the photographer: "W. Kundzicz/Champion". This is one of only two surviving prints of his only daring and uninhibited "butt-rear" pose, acquired from the Walter Kundzicz Estate. This is the only such signed copy of the print available online, is eminently suitable for framing, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: There are Jim Stryker and Walter Kundzicz prints available online, but most of them are digital copies or have very serious flaws. So they have little or no collectible value. A rare signed print thus. One of the iconic American male-nude models of the 20th century. A fine collectible print. (SEE ALSO OTHER JIM STRYKER, TUCK POWELL, JOE DALLESANDRO, AND BRUCE OF LOS ANGELES TITLES IN OUR CATALOG)., Champion Studio, 1988, 5, Millerton, New York: Aperture, 1972. Softcover. "Published just after her untimely death in 1971, this book--whether or not aided by the artist's notoriety--has achieved massive sales for a volume of such uncompromising photographs. Edited by Doon Arbus and Marvin Israel, its titled implies a mere trawl through her best-known images. It is that, but it also a brilliant exposé of American life. ... While it is true that she often photographed those outside society's norms, a more pertinent observation is that if she made 'normals' look like 'freaks', she also made 'freaks' look like 'normals'. Furthermore, her exploration of normalcy was complicated by gender issues. In her aggressive, full frontal 'exploitation' of her subjects, Arbus appropriated an essentially male convention: that of staring. Indeed, it may well be her assumption of this prerogative of masculine domination that has attracted much of the negative comment, compounded by her undercutting of gender stereotypes. She was a great feminist photographer. Her women and girls are invariably strong--like the confident twins [on the cover of the book]--and her men are frequently damaged or uncomfortable in their surroundings."--The Photobook : A History Volume I / Martin Parr and Gerry Badger. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. 352pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. With a comprehensive bibliography and exhibition history. This is a massive, cheerfully obsessive tome documenting Parr's life and career; revealing insights into his influences and attitudes as well as assessing his importance within the worlds of art & photography. Parr's wry commentary on British life and social mores has continued for over thirty years, becoming increasingly global in nature. Images presented here from previous bodies of the Magnum photographer's work and publications include "A Fair Day", "Bad Weather", "Home Sweet Home", "Autoportrait", "The Last Resort", "The Cost of Living", "Signs of the Times" and "Think of England"; in addition to many as yet uncollected in book form. A brand new, pristine example of the 2002 first Phaidon hardbound edition (cited on page 249 of Fred Ritchin and Carole Naggar's "Magnum Photobook: A Catalogue Raisonné") still in the publisher's shrinkwrap. Beginning with the ideal home and family, the book follows a Martin Parr guided tour - a shopping spree, a trip to the seaside, theme-park culture, invented history, and Safari Parks. From Britain, Parr joins tourists at the Eiffel Tower and in Middle-Eastern bazaars. By the time he has reached McDonalds in Moscow, we realize that the culture he has depicted so unsparingly stretches around the globe". This was the first major collection in book form of the photographer's wry commentary on British life and social mores, which has continued for over thirty years, becoming increasingly global in nature. Il ritratto vivo di una città e la sua risposta di massa e antifascista alla tesi degli opposti estremismi., Musolini, 1973, 2.5, Millerton, New York: Aperture, 1972. From Britain, Parr joins tourists at the Eiffel Tower and in Middle-Eastern bazaars. By the time he has reached McDonalds in Moscow, we realize that the culture he has depicted so unsparingly stretches around the globe".
