Harry at the Precipice: a police procedural/crime novel

Harry Berg is an NYPD detective/lieutenant in what is likely the last days of his career when he's confronted with the most gut wrenching case of his career - the triple murder of a pimp and two prostitutes. The reader learns early on that one of the girls is Harry's illegitimate daughter. Harry needs to decide whether to risk it all - career, family, reputation - and satisfy his desire for revenge. There are several keys suspects he and his most trusted detective, Frank McKenna, investigate: two Hell's Kitchen gangsters, and an aging police impersonator who likes to pose as a detective. There are a couple of sub-plots in the story, which help to show Harry's character - which is complicated and flawed. Andy Rosenzweig is the author and his thirty plus years of experience in New York City as a patrolman, investigator, private detective is what gives his writing authenticity. You can read a little bit more about Andy at his web site - realdealcrimewriter.com His career has already been partially chronicled by award winning writer Philip Gourevitch in his New Yorker article and book, both entitled A COLD CASE. Philip tells the story of Andy's 27 year pursuit of multiple killer Frank Koehler who shot and killed two men in February of 1970. The murders of Richie Glennon and Pete McGinn on the east side of Manhattan haunted Andy for years, because though he was only a young policeman at the time, he happened to know both victims. Andy's writing is informed by his familiarity with the old New York Runyonesque characters. It allowed his to created lieutenant Harry Berg and his sidekick Detective Frank McKenna and many of the other colorful characters. Harry's conflicted from the start, by his need for justice and his need for revenge. The two forces clash in his psyche, which doesn't help in his decision making as he pursues the investigation. If you enjoy reading about crime, New York and the police who protect the city, you'll enjoy getting to know Harry Berg. Note: All of the characters in this work of fiction are not real and any resemblance to living or deceased individuals is strictly unintentional and inadvertent.
